As a powerful talisman of healing and prosperity, Amazonite has been used in jewelry and cut into beads since the time of the early Mesopotamian cultures. Well-known in India, Egypt, Sudan and Mesopotamia, it was a popular amulet stone and was once used as decorative material for building facades. It was carved and cut into tablets for the Egyptian funerary text, Book of the Dead, and an Amazonite scarab ring was found among Tutankhamen’s treasures. It was believed to be the third stone in the breastplate of the Jewish High Priest. It features in this pendant in the shape of a crescent moon, electroformed so as to be encrusted with solid copper.
From the moon hangs an amazonite shard. The shard also is electroformed, in keeping with the rustic feel of the piece. The two part pendant allows for both elements to move freely.
The chain is adorned with several beads of Amazonite as well, to accent and continue the flow of the necklace. The drop portion of the pendant measures 4 inches in length, and approximately 1 1/4 inch at the widest point. The chain is extra long on this piece, approximately 35 inches, meaning this piece works perfectly for layering. The chain length can easily be adjusted upon request by leaving a note during the checkout process.
