Chrysophrase is a form of silica, getting its color from tiny inclusions of nickle. The crystal forms in this stone are tiny, much smaller than can be seen under a microscope. It's name is from the Greek for "golden leek" denoting their impression that the color is such a rich green that it was a gift from nature.
This piece has an interesting island of matrix in a deep brown color, nearly at the center of the stone. The setting is solid copper wire, with the woven elements having been fashioned entirely by hand. A patina has been applied to the metal to give depth and an antique feel.
The pendant measures just over 2 1/4 inches long and slightly less than an inch wide. It will arrive with the pictured 18 inch chain. The piece ships in a decorative box, tied with a beautiful satin bow, perfect for gifting.
